The breakthrough of the first tube of the world deepest underwater road tunnel took place yesterday.
The driving operations on the Vadlaheidi
tunnel in Iceland have been completed by the consortium Marti
Contractors and IAV.
The excavation works on the cavern, the shafts and the tunnels were completed in due time at the end of 2016.
The 5,8 kilometers long Nordnes tunnel in the province of Tromsö in northern Norway was successfully broken through on the 7th December 2016.
Marti was contracted to construct the hydropower
station for the National Power Company of Iceland Landvirkjun. The
excavation and blasting works for the portals leading to the underground power plant have begun on schedule in May.
