Besides connecting the two urban areas of Fyllingsdalen and Minde for commuters and pedestrians/cyclists, the invert of the tunnel will have several purposes. It is therefore good to see that the escape tunnel will also serve as bike and pedestrian tunnel, as a placement for high voltage cables, drinking water supply and district heating.
The new water pipes and district heating pipes will connect to the existing distribution network of Bergen Municipality, and this week marks the final stage of installation. Global supply chain disruptions and shortage of raw materials as a consequence of the pandemic and the recent conflict in Ukraine, have put a strain on most manufacturers and suppliers, albeit careful planning and foresight by Marti Tunnel has ensured that delivery and installation have been executed according to schedule.
Overlapping works in the tunnel and the sheer length of water and districts heating pipes of 3.000 meters has posed challenges for the logistics on site, yet, thanks to good coordination between Marti and the subcontractors, no delays have occurred on either works.
